It's often said that no trip to Georgia would be complete without venturing into the Greater Caucasus mountains, a majestic range that separates Georgia from Russia and lends its name to the Trans-Caucasus region.
During our journey, we'll embark on hikes through three of the most renowned regions in the southeastern Caucasus - Kazbegi, Khevsureti, and Tusheti.
Kazbegi stands out as the most frequently visited mountain region in Georgia. Nestled in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of northeastern Georgia, the small town of Stepantsminda, formerly known as Kazbegi, sits at an elevation of 1750m above sea level.
Khevsureti boasts breathtaking natural beauty and remains one of the most pristine and undiscovered mountainous regions in eastern Georgia. Its allure lies in the majestic mountains, untamed rivers, fortified villages, atmospheric abandoned settlements, ancient shrines dotting the slopes, and limited tourist infrastructure.
Tusheti, nestled deep within the Caucasus mountains, is the most remote and isolated region in northeastern Georgia. Located in the northern slopes of the Caucasus, it shares borders with Chechnya and Dagestan to the north and east. Despite its seclusion, Tusheti has emerged as a warm and welcoming destination, offering unique cultural heritage sites, ancient ruined villages, traditional craftsmanship, breathtaking landscapes, and the legendary hospitality of the Tushetian people.
