While the hike from Mestia to Ushguli is undoubtedly popular, it tends to be quite crowded. However, preceding this well-trodden path lie numerous undiscovered and offbeat trails, offering a truly wild experience. These trails have connected small villages nestled in the valleys for ages, promising authentic and unspoiled encounters. By venturing along these lesser-known trails, travelers have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the region's ethno-culture. Staying at simple homestays and family guesthouses in these remote villages allows for a closer exploration of local traditions and a deeper connection with the community. It's a chance to embrace the untouched beauty and authenticity of Georgia's mountainous landscapes while forging meaningful connections with its inhabitants.
Early in the morning, at 8:00 we depart to Zugdidi by train. After arrival we’ll have lunch at the local restaurant, take a 4x4 car and head to Chuberi Valley in Svaneti.
Overnight at the local wooden cottage in Kvemo Marghi
The first part of the day we’ll drive through the dense forest alongside the river Marghi by a Soviet 6x6 truck „Ural“. After we get above tree level we’ll continue hiking uphill not very hard until Utviri pass (2714m). After the pass we’ll walk down 13 more km and and get to the village of Nakra.

Make an early start towards Tsaleri. There amazing scenery will be the setting for our lunch at the village of Tsaleri. After lunch, we continue our hike to the village of Phari , where we stay overnight at a local homestay.

The last day of our hike takes us along the old path over the village Mazeri, which over the centuries used to be the main thoroughfare between the Phari and Becho communities. Overnight in Mazeri. As we ascend, the mountaintops of the southern fiords come into sight and once we get to the pass of Mezeri the main pride of Svaneti, mount Ushba is in full view and the open views and fields in front of it. Descending into Becho valley we enjoy the breathtaking panoramas of this long and narrow path surrounded by dense forest.

An easy, relaxing panoramic hike to Ushba waterfalls preparing yourself for the thrilling culmination hike on the sixth day of our adventure. This day's itinerary offers a gentle and relaxing experience, covering a total of 12 kilometers through the picturesque pine tree forest, tracing the path alongside the Dolra river as it ascends

This is one of the routes that take you as close as you can get to Mt. Ushba. We’ll hike up until Guli pass (2930m) and descend to Koruldi lakes where we’ll be picked up and transferred to Mestia.
Overnight in Mestia at the guest house.

Transfer back to Zugdidi and return to Tbilisi by train
