Horse Riding Loop Tour in Tusheti

 

Tusheti is one of the most hidden jams in Georgia. Tush people still live a nomadic lifestyle, and because of that they have long traditions of horsback riding. There are 4 river valleys that are also communities of villages. In this tour you will have an opportunity to explore majority of the villages and valleys, ridges, and passes with stunning views of different seasons – Spring blossom or autumn colours.

Tbilisi - Tusheti

At 9:00 a.m., you’ll depart from Tbilisi, driving through the Gombori Pass towards Kakheti, the renowned wine region of Georgia. There will be a short stop at the Telavi Bazaar to experience the local culture. From there, you’ll continue through Alaverdi and Pshaveli, taking the adventurous mountain pass road to the Abano Pass. Afterward, you’ll proceed to Omalo, the main village of Tusheti, where you’ll stay in a cozy local family hotel.

The journey will take from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with several small breaks and stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and explore. The total route from Tbilisi to Omalo is approximately 200 km.

Omalo - Shenako – Diklo

Get acquainted with your horse on a relaxed ride. Enjoy open canter paths near Shenako and visit one of Tusheti’s rare Christian churches alongside a nearby pagan Chati. In Diklo, ride to the Old Fortress for stunning views toward Chechnya and Dagestan.

Diklo - Chigo – Dartlo

Ride the same beautiful trail via Chigo to Dartlo, offering more time to connect with the horses and immerse in Tusheti’s unique heritage and architecture.

Dartlo - Kvavlo - Dano – Baso

Climb to Kvavlo for sweeping mountain views, then ride through historic Dano and descend to Cheshoand continue via the dirt road cross rivers every now and then on horseback before reaching Parsma, known for its ancient towers and petroglyphs.

Parsma - Nakaicho Pass - Jvarboseli - Koklata

one of the most chanalging day - the day begins by crossing the big mountain river, then the steep ascent towards the pass via the winding footpath, cross the 2,950m Nakaicho Pass into the remote and forested Gometsari Valley. Watch for falcons, vultures, and signs of rare wildlife.

Jvarboseli - Bochorna - Omalo

Visit Bochorna, the highest permanently inhabited village in Georgia. Continue to Old Omalo to explore a traditional Tushetian tower house. Say goodbye to your horse companions in the afternoon.

Omalo - Tbilisi

You’ll return via the Abano Pass, heading back to Tbilisi through the scenic Kakheti region. If you’d like, we can coordinate with the group to organize a wine tasting and lunch in Kakheti after descending from the mountains, available for an additional fee.

The journey from Omalo to Tbilisi is about 200 km
